About the Owner

Jackie Craven at computerJackie Craven became fascinated by 19th century architecture when she purchased her first Victorian house in 1984. Over the years, she renovated several old buildings on her street and established a rental business specializing in attractive apartments in historic neighborhoods. She is twice awarded by the Schenectady Heritage Foundation and currently serves on the Schenectady Historic Commission.

A former teacher, Jackie a holds a Doctor of Arts in English from the State University of New York at Albany. She is the author of The Healthy Home and The Stress-Free Home (Rockport Publishers) and many articles for House & Garden magazine, Realtor Magazine, and other publications. Her articles and photos appear on the Architecture pages at About.com, a New York Times Digital Company.

Jackie lives steps away from her rental buildings and spends her non-writing time on renovations and remodeling projects. Her goal is to create an interesting and pleasing community for her tenants, many of whom are students or employees of nearby Union College.
